On my 2017 T6, I have a Webasto auxiliary/water heater and Eberspacher air/parking heater fitted at factory. The remote and timer only controls the Eberspacher air/parking heater. The Webasto aux/water heater only kicks in whilst the engine is running and the outside temp is 5 degrees or below.

I am interested to know if the temperature threshold of the Webasto can be increased to say 10 degrees?

Also what other changes can be made to the Webasto using VCDS/VAGCOM? Can it also be made to operate via the remote? I'd really like to make the Webasto operate as a parking heater so I get warm air out my vents at engine startup. I rang Webasto and they told me their generic Thermocall / Telestart upgrade kits do not work as VW install their own software onto the factory-fit Webasto Thermotop heater.

They say it doesn’t but looking at the wiring there is a remote module shown and it simply applies a 12v supply to a pin on the vw module.
Our Touareg had a remote start for the coolant heater, I think the difference is that the secondary coolant pump has to be started but the vw module might take care of that.

Edit: I just looked at this a 3rd time as yes it supplies a 12v feed to a wire on the heater control unit.

If you park on your own drive, you could install one of those simple inline water heaters that you plug in?? That way your heater water and engine would already be warm enough to defrost??
 
The adaptation channels available using VCDS at the bottom. Unfortunately the text doesn't align too well but should be readable.

In addition to the adaptation channels, some features (mostly configuration) are controlled by so called "coding" in VCDS - see below in red.

Mine has been configured to heat up the engine first and then the cabin and it uses van's regular heaters blower to warm up the cabin. I know it can be configured different ways like - cabin only, engine only, cabin first then engine, etc.
Edit: For me it warms up engine and cabin before starting the engine, activated using remote or programmed times on control panel.

I think I have seen vans with remote only (but no control panel) so I'm assuming it should be possible to add VW-remote receiver module or even control panel - but haven't really verified that.

So your remote control module is a Webasto Telesart.
Did you add this or factory fitted?
 
It looks like the kit I put the link to is the complete kit to wire to the webasto and to the vans fan control .
The other kit @Loz put the link for is if you already have factory controller and you can add the tele start .
Shame I liked the price of the other kit .
 
Did you read the fitting instructions? What a lot of faffing about..
 
I think I'm trying to achieve the same thing as @Jimmy T6 and I have the same setup. This being automatic non remote coolant heater by Webasto and air heater by Eberspatcher with remote. I also have the control unit near the interior light which only controls the air heater.

To actuate the coolant heater I intend on installing the Telestart kit as noted by @Loz above or connecting the coolant heater to my GSM tracker which has a switchable auxiliary contact.

The VW manual says that the MODE button allows control of the coolant heater modes but the control panel in my MY18 Kombi only allows control of the air heater.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Hi @Chris You'll do you have climate or climatronic a/c , if climatronic its slightly easier to wire ,with all the wires under the passenger seat .
 
Hi @Chris You'll , i'm personally not willing to spend that kind of money on a Telestart kit without some firm evidence it will work. I made inquiries to Webasto on two separate occasions, both times speaking with different people on the technical support line. They assured me the auxiliary water heater fitted on our vans is an OEM version, and that their Telestart kit is most unlikely to work, basically even though it says Webasto on the part it may as well say Volkswagen. I've decided we're stuck with it as VW intended, unless anyone on this forum can provide some pretty solid advice on the procedure they followed. In hind site, the mistake was to order both heaters.

So, I use my simple workaround which works quite a treat...... basically in subzero conditions and all iced up, I start the engine 5 minutes before I drive off, stick the front defrost on, then lock with the spare key. The Webasto auxiliary heater does its thing, and rapidly heats the water coolant. Not ideal but at least it is free. The next best thing would be if someone could invent a solution that did the same as this off a remote.

In hind-site, I recommend to all people considering ordering the extra heater options... just order the auxiliary water coolant heater from the factory - you can then use it off the remote and timer and enjoy warm air from your vents as soon as you jump in and have your windscreen defrosted for you by the warm air. If you need an additional air heater (e.g. for overnight), then fit this as aftermarket, with all the whistles and bells options you require.

You get a firmware update with the kit which changes the ome heater back to webasto so works as a parking heater .
I have just purchased my kit and it is all webasto ,and includes the disc and usb stick to do the upgrade .
@Crewey has already fitted his kit and all works as it should from the tele start .

Hi @Jimmy T6, i can understand that. I would prefer a free or cheap option so I'm going to try to connect it to my tracker first. I think before this I will just try to put a 12v supply to the relevant terminal and prove it will switch.

I like the idea of the coolant heater running before the engine starts as to me this is what is designed to do. It gets pretty cold out here -20 is common in winter.

I just can't understand why it doesn't come with the remote, I would prefer to have no remote for the night heater asks one for the coolant.

Hi @carlg, I have climate a/c. I also have LHD so I'm guessing it will be under the drivers as this is where I think the 2nd battery is. I'll take a look tomorrow.

I would be happy to pay for the kit, but I'm just not sure if I understand the control bit. Obviously remote on/off, but does this then enable modes to be selected via the overhead control panel?

There should be a 17 pin red plug under your drivers seat ,which is the loom from the from the auxiliary heater .my kit instructions are for a left had drive .I think you only have 3 wires to connect when it is clamatronic .
The remote turns the heater on ,then a short delay the the dash fan will turn on and blow warm air at the windscreen .
